<p id=”par-1_77″>Coi Leray has made headlines for more than just her <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/music/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>musical</a> career. The “Twinnem” artist has also been in the news for her new relationship with Justin Laboy, her past relationship and split from fellow <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/rappers/?swcfpc=1″>rapper</a> Trippie Redd while she was pregnant, and her fractured relationship with her father, Benzino. Leray’s dad has said that he only found out he was going to be a grandfather the same way her fans did when he read about it. </p>
<p id=”par-2_22″>Here’s the reason why Leray made the decision to cut Benzino out of her life and what he revealed about that. </p>
<p id=”par-3_54″>Leray was born on May 11, 1997, and was raised by her mother after her parents split. Although she followed in her father’s musical footsteps, they do not have a relationship today. The tension between them played out publicly after she rapped about how Benzino “let me down” in her 2021 song “No More Parties.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_28″>While both have spoken about each other in interviews and on social media, the reason behind their distance reflects a broader story about upbringing, expectations, and communication breakdown.</p>
<p id=”par-5_59″>Leray has claimed that Benzino was “envious” of her success and in 2024, she reiterated that they do not have a relationship, saying, “I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him … I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on.</p>
<p id=”par-6_54″>“I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please dont [sic] even think of me when you see him. Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY . Loyalty , boundaries , respect , teaching , guidance , love , patience , encouragement MAKES US FAMILY.”</p>

<p id=”par-7_47″>During one interview with Carlos King for his show <em>Reality With the King</em> in late 2025, Benzino addressed some of his daughter’s comments and admitted, “I didn’t know how to handle this on the internet. I didn’t see this coming, so I didn’t know how to handle that. </p>
<p id=”par-8_48″>“There was no manual I could look in or ask ChatGPT. My feelings were hurt. I never knew she felt that way about me. Because I know for a fact that anything that I did was out of love. Anything I didn’t do right was me not knowing.”</p>
<p id=”par-9_11″>Benzino then shared that he still hasn’t seen his granddaughter in person yet.</p>

<p id=”par-10_38″>“She just had a baby,” Benzino said. “I haven’t seen her. I get the pictures when they come out on <em>The Shade Room</em> just like everybody else. I wish it would stop and go back to normal again.”</p>
<p id=”par-11_58″>Their main issues appear to be differing expectations of what their relationship should look like. Benzino has occasionally framed his perspective around wanting respect and recognition as her father, while Leray has focused on emotional support and accountability for the past. She has spoken about wanting consistency and a genuine connection, rather than sporadic involvement or public commentary.</p>
