I think Teyana Taylor had a good award season considering One Battle After Another was her first role in an awards-contender type film. She won a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice and several critics’ awards, plus she got SAG/Actor, BAFTA and Oscar nominations. She was also a key part of a now Best-Picture-Oscar-winning film. She announced herself as a major fashionista and a major actress. I’m sure she’s getting tons of scripts and offers. Plus, she seemed hyped not only about OBAA, but about everyone else during the awards season. Her excitement at seeing Michael B. Jordan and Amy Madigan win their Oscars on Sunday was lovely and endearing. Well, all of that will affect how the industry treats her going forward. But at the actual Oscars, she got into an “altercation,” at least that’s how some sites are referring to it. It sounds more like Teyana was assaulted and she stood her ground and screamed at the security guy who shoved her.
Teyana Taylor appeared to confront a security guard as the 2026 Oscars ended after an apparent incident in which the actress said the guard shoved her. Taylor, 35, could be seen yelling at a person offscreen in a video shared to X that appeared to be taken after the broadcast on Sunday, March 15, ended, as guests at the awards ceremony were leaving the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
“Because you’re a man putting your hands on a female! You’re very rude. You’re very rude,” Taylor could be heard saying in the video. “You’re very rude.”
“Because he’s putting his hands on a female! He literally shoved me… Do not shove me. Do not touch me. Do not push me,” she told other guests who approached her as the short video unfolded. At least one woman in the video can also be seen saying, “That was uncalled for,” to a person off-screen at the same time Taylor called them “very rude.”
Later in the evening, Taylor told TMZ of the incident in a separate video, which appeared to be taken later in the night elsewhere in L.A, “It’s all good. Everybody’s having a good time and security was just doing a lot.” “There’s always that one. But everything’s fine. I’m happy.”
“I mean, there’s nothing to wonder,” she added, when TMZ’s videographer said people “were wondering” what happened as she left the event. “I think the first thing people do is definitely make assumptions, but at the end of the day, I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and it’s unprovoked, you know what I’m saying?”
In a statement shared with PEOPLE on March 16, Security Industry Specialists, Inc said, “There was a brief interaction involving Ms. Taylor and a member of our security team during the show last evening. Our security personnel were working to manage a crowded area and ensure the safety of all guests. During that interaction, there was incidental contact and we regret that the situation escalated. This is not the standard of professionalism we expect from our team, and we have addressed the matter internally to help ensure situations like this do not happen again.”
The Academy told PEOPLE in a statement that they were “were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor at the end of the Oscars ceremony last night.”
“We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community,” the statement reads. “Though the incident was with our outside security firm SIS, the experience of every single guest is our responsibility. We have made it clear to them that this behavior is not acceptable. We want to thank Teyana for showing remarkable grace, and we are taking the appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again.”
I appreciate that the Academy’s statement centers Teyana and takes responsibility for what happened, even if they outsource their security. I mean… the Academy stays disrespectful of Black artists in general, but even they know it’s a terrible look when a Black woman and an Oscar nominee gets man-handled or assaulted AT the Oscars. I’m including the video of the aftermath of the incident, where Teyana was telling the security guy (who is off-camera) that he’s being disrespectful. This f–king sucks and she looked really upset.
OH TEYANA WHO DO WE NEED TO FIGHT OMFG
