<p id=”par-3_67″>During the chat, Stone, now 68, told Begnaud that back in 2001, a doctor walked into her home and revealed she had massive tumors in her breasts. He told her it was likely cancer and that he recommended a double mastectomy, due to the size and positioning of the tumors. Shocked, Stone was prepared to go forward with the surgery, but her then-husband’s reaction gave her pause.</p>
<p id=”par-4_66″>Stone told Begnaud that her then-husband, whom she did not mention by name, was angered by the notion of the surgery and that she’d lose both of her breasts, insisting that it wasn’t her decision to make. She said, spurred by her own doctor, she took a stand. In that moment, she said she knew her marriage was over and her then-partner was “done” with her.</p>
<p id=”par-5_14″>The tumors turned out to be benign, and she underwent surgery to remove them.</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-who-was-she-referencing”>Who Was She Referencing?</h2>
<p id=”par-6_57″>Sharon Stone did not name her ex-husband in the interview. She was careful about that. Still, she didn’t really need to. The timeline points clearly to journalist Phil Bronstein as the partner who was angered by the threat of surgery. She was married to Bronstein, an executive editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, from 1998 to 2004.</p>
<p id=”par-7_59″>Their split announcement insisted the breakup was cordial and mutual. The couple even released a joint statement about the separation and insisted they planned to move forward as co-parents and friends. Sharon Stone’s new account, however, suggests the end of the marriage was anything but amicable. Their <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/a-look-back-at-amber-portwoods-custody-situation.html/”>custody battle</a> was embroiled, too. Bronstein has not returned requests for comment.</p>
