Hair and beauty expert Danielle Louise talked about Kate’s look, which has put the polished blowout firmly back on the summer beauty agenda.

“Princess Kate’s garden party hair is exactly why the royal blowout works so well for formal summer events. It is polished, smooth, and expensive-looking, but it does not fight with the hat,” Louise explained via <a href=”https://www.fresha.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Fresha. “A lot of people make the mistake of going too big with their blow-dry before wearing a hat or fascinator. The result is hair that either gets crushed flat or starts to look messy as soon as the hat comes off.

“The royal blowout is different. It is controlled, glossy and low-volume at the top, with softness through the lengths. That is what makes it so wearable for weddings, races, garden parties and summer events where your hair needs to last for hours.”

Louise added her tips when recreating this style, sharing, “For a hat-friendly blowout, you do not want too much lift at the root or crown. The shape needs to be smooth where the hat sits, then fuller through the mid-lengths and ends. Think glossy hair, not huge hair. The finish should look intentional, but not overworked.

“When you are wearing a hat, fascinator, or headband, your hair becomes part of the whole outfit. It needs to frame the face, balance the accessory, and still look neat after travel, photographs, weather, and several hours outside.”

If you want to recreate Kate’s blowout, Louise said you can simply tell your hairdresser “what you are wearing on your head. That is really important. A blow-dry for loose hair is different from a blow-dry that needs to sit under a hat or fascinator. If your stylist knows where the hat sits, they can keep that area smoother and build the shape lower down.”

And if you want to achieve the blowout yourself at home, Louise says, “Start with a smoothing blow-dry product and dry the roots in the direction you want the hair to sit. Keep the crown sleek, then use a round brush through the mid-lengths and ends to create soft movement.”

She continued, “Once the hair is dry, smooth over the top layer with a brush and apply a light finishing spray. If you are wearing a hat, place it on once the hair has fully cooled so you do not set dents into warm hair.
