<p id=”par-1_17″>For the first time, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/princess-diana-brother-poignant-childhood-photo-26th-anniversary-death.html/”>Princess Diana’s brother</a> is opening up about his sister in a new memoir. </p>
<p id=”par-2_36″>Charles Spencer latest book, <em>Swan Song: Diana, My Sister</em>, will be released on September 22 by Penguin Random House in the U.S. It’s available for preorder now at Amazon, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers. </p>

<p id=”par-3_41″>Diana died in a car accident in Paris in August 1997. As the 30th anniversary of her death approaches next year, Charles, who is now the 9th Earl Spencer, said he felt compelled to share his memories of his older sibling. </p>
<p id=”par-4_69″>“With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister,” he said (via <a href=”https://www.theguardian.com/books/2026/aug/18/charles-spencer-diana-book-swan-song” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Guardian</a>). “This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_48″>“The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral,” he added. “As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_26″>Charles said that he hoped <em>Swan Song </em>would offer a new perspective on his sister, especially for those who have only known her after her death. </p>
<p id=”par-7_61″>“I would be delighted if those too young to remember her in her heyday feel, after reading this, that they ‘get’ who she really was: a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young,” he said. </p>
<p id=”par-8_49″>In his second memoir, Charles, 62, will reveal never-before-shared details about his relationship with Diana. The two were once “each other’s closest confidantes,” according to the <a href=”https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/836436/swan-song-by-charles-spencer/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>book’s description</a>, as they “endured extremely challenging boarding schools, survived terrifying nannies, and helped each other through <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/princess-diana-life-death-legacy.html/”>the agony of their parents’ divorce</a>.”</p>
<p id=”par-9_58″>Then, Diana’s life changed forever when she married the future King Charles in 1981. The Princess of Wales became a global icon, even as she endured a difficult marriage. After divorcing Charles, it seemed that freedom was on the horizon. But tragically, her life was cut short as she was fleeing the relentless paparazzi who constantly pursued her.</p>
<p id=”par-10_58″>While this will be the first time that Spencer has written about his relationship with Diana at length, he has authored several other books, including <em>The White Ship, </em>which explores a sailing disaster that rocked the British monarchy in the 11th century, and <em>A Very Private School, </em>his memoir of his traumatic experiences at a British boarding school. </p>
