<p id=”par-1_64″>When it was announced that <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/king-charles/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>King Charles III</a> and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/queen-camilla-sent-clear-message-donald-trump-arrived-u-s-state-visit.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Queen Camilla</a> were embarking on a state visit to the U.K., <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/donald-trump/?swcfpc=1″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Donald Trump</a> was said to be very excited to welcome them since he considers the king to be a friend. But while their friendship hasn’t been a secret, not many people were aware of the president’s wife, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/inside-star-studded-white-house-screening-melania.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Melania Trump</a>, and the British monarch’s connection.</p>
<p id=”par-2_32″>When photos surfaced of the king and first lady laughing and joking after the royals arrived at the White House, their connection was noted and it’s something Melania previously wrote about. </p>
<p id=”par-3_52″> In her 2024 memoir titled <em>Melania</em>, the FLOTUS recalled the Trumps’ first state visit to the U.K. in 2019 when she and her husband were hosted by then-Prince Charles and Camilla at the U.S. ambassador’s residence. She described the “intimate” dinner as a “perfect” expression of the ties between the two countries. </p>

<p id=”par-4_49″>Per <a href=”https://www.the-independent.com/news/uk/home-news/melania-trump-king-charles-pen-pals-friendship-memoir-b2625595.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Independent</a>, Melania shared that they attended a “formal and elegant” state dinner, where she was seated next to the future king, writing, “It was an absolute pleasure to reconnect with him … This time we engaged in an interesting conversation about his deep-rooted commitment to environmental conservation.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_30″>Mrs. Trump added that she first met King Charles in 2005 and since the 2019 state visit, they have become pen pals, keeping in touch over the years through letters.</p>
<p id=”par-6_69″>The first lady said that at the end of their initial trip, she and the president invited Queen Elizabeth II to return to the United States. “She expressed her gratitude with a warm smile. Sadly, Her Majesty wasn’t able to visit with us again before her death in 2022, but our friendship with the royal family continues, and we exchange letters with King Charles to this day,” Melania explained.</p>
