He felt that the emotional ballad would help give the singer a more mature sound. It was clear that Jackson resonated with the emotions behind the song. It moved him to tears every time he sang it.</p>
<p id=”par-3_51″>“I had a song I’d been saving for Michael called ‘She’s Out of My Life,’” Jones told <a href=”https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/michael-jackson-life-as-a-man-in-the-magical-kingdom-237878/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Rolling Stone</a> in 1983. “Michael heard it, and it clicked. But when he sang it, he would cry. Every time we did it, I’d look up at the end and Michael would be crying.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_35″>Eventually, Jones told Jackson to take a step back from the song and try to record it later. When he still cried after the break, Jones opted to keep his tears in the final version.</p>
<p id=”par-5_36″>“I said, ‘We’ll come back in two weeks and do it again, and maybe it won’t tear you up so much.’ Came back and he started to get teary,” he said. “So we left it in.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_24″>In 1982, Jackson narrated an audiobook to accompany the film <em>E.T.</em> Director Steven Spielberg felt that there was no better option for the narrator. </p>
<p id=”par-7_17″>“If E.T. didn’t come to Elliott, he would have come to your house,” Spielberg told the singer.</p>
<p id=”par-8_7″>Jackson said the film moved him deeply.</p>
<p id=”par-9_45″>“The first time I saw <em>E.T.</em>, I melted through the whole thing,” he said. “The second time, I cried like crazy. And then, in doing the narration, I felt like I was there with them, like behind a tree or something, watching everything that happened.”</p>
<p id=”par-10_28″>As he narrated the portion of the film when E.T. was dying, he began to weep. Spielberg and Jones, who produced the project, chose to keep this in. </p>

They formed a working relationship on the set of <em>The Wiz</em> and became a powerful force in the movie industry. </p>
