This week, Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans after “terrorizing” the French Quarter for days. Shia fell off the wagon at some point, and he’s back to his old habits of getting wasted and starting fights. After his arrest, Shia was quickly released and he immediately began drinking again and posting on social media. Within this ordeal, we learned something: Shia is no longer with Mia Goth. They first got together in 2012, and they’ve had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship/marriage for years. In 2022, Mia welcomed their daughter Isabel. Well, apparently, Mia and Shia split up one year ago. Sources confirmed that news to Page Six earlier this week, and now People Magazine has more information:
Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth separated last year, PEOPLE can confirm. The two actors have been together on and off since 2012. LaBeouf, 39, and Goth, 32, welcomed a daughter together in 2022.
“Their relationship has always been complicated. They weren’t getting along and had a lot of drama last year,” a source tells PEOPLE exclusively of the pair, adding that LaBeouf moved from their home in Los Angeles to New Orleans.
The Frankenstein star “encouraged” LaBeouf to move out, the insider says. “She loves him, but she also doesn’t need him. She’s very independent. She has her own life, her own career and her priority is their daughter.”
“Shia loves their daughter and stays in touch,” the source adds.
Reps for LaBeouf and Goth did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Mia has gotten a lot of attention in the past year, even garnering some awards buzz for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. She also has a role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Meaning, her career is reaching new heights and she likely cut off the dead weight (Shia). Honestly though, I bet this was more about their daughter. In recent interviews, Mia has talked about how Isabel goes everywhere with her, and how much motherhood has changed her. I feel like Mia just got to a point where she did what she needed to do to get out of this relationship/marriage to Shia. If she files for divorce, I really hope Shia doesn’t make it messy.
Speaking of mess, the Hollywood Reporter spoke to one of Shia’s victims in NOLA, and the man says that Shia was committing hate crimes too. As Shia was violently assaulting people, he was also shouting homophobic bullsh-t. Throw his ass in prison, my god.
