At the end of the day, Barbie only won one Oscar, for Best Song. Margot Robbie wasn’t nominated in Best Actress and Greta Gerwig wasn’t nominated in Best Director. Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera lost in the supporting categories, and Robbie and Gerwig lost in the categories in which they were nominated – Adapted Screenplay and executive producer (for Margot). It felt like they were all choosing to simply celebrate the film and their achievements and they didn’t go into the show thinking that they would win anything. I’m sad about that, because Barbie really was a massive achievement.
Fashion notes: both Margot Robbie and America Ferrera wore Versace. I like that Margot passed the Barbie-pink baton to America, and Margot finally wore something which was not some big Barbie look. I like America’s dress a lot, and Margot’s dress is fine (it’s better from the waist up). Greta Gerwig has been wearing some offbeat looks throughout the awards season, so I like that she went very clean and straight-forward for the Oscars. This gown is Gucci – it’s a bit pale for her coloring, but she looks good. Her jewelry is Boucheron.
