<p id=”par-2_40″><em>The Boroughs </em>features an all-star cast – including Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, and Geena Davis – as residents of an upscale retirement community that’s plagued by mysterious deaths and other happenings. <em>Stranger Things </em>creators <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/stranger-things-duffer-brothers-didnt-want-kill-bob-newby.html/”>The Duffer Brothers</a> produced the show. </p>

<p id=”par-3_66″>The Boroughs is a serene town tucked away in an isolated desert location. When new resident Sam Cooper (Molina) moves in, the grieving recent widower skeptical of the too-perfect surroundings and cheery neighbors. Even the community’s slogan (“Where you’ll have the time of your life”) seems like an insult. Eventually, he begins to warm to his new home – just as things take a dark turn. </p>
<p id=”par-4_32″><em>The Boroughs </em>was filmed in New Mexico. But don’t go looking for the idyllic midcentury cul-de-sac that Sam calls home. Netflix built the neighborhood from scratch on its studio backlot in Albuquerque. </p>
<p id=”par-5_74″>“The Boroughs doesn’t exist, and we had to bring it to life,” co-creator and showrunner Jeffrey Addiss explained in a press release. “When you see Sam’s cul-de-sac, we built that. When you go downtown and see The Boroughs and all those shops, we built that. You could go into those shops and turn on those coffee machines and they would work. What this production did and what our production designer did is a feat.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_14″>The show’s team also transformed a defunct mall into The Boroughs’ lively town square. </p>
<p id=”par-7_31″>“It really was like bringing back a dead mall,” director of photography Matthew Jensen said. “In the end, it was really beautiful and felt alive and felt like a real place.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_50″>Other filming locations included the Albuquerque Convention Center, First Plaza Galleria, the Expo New Mexico Fine Arts Gallery, the Old Ramada Inn, Twin Warriors Golf Club and Montessa Park. The show is one of several Netflix productions that have recently filmed in the state, including <em>Ransom Canyon </em>and <em>American Primeval. </em></p>
<p id=”par-9_105″>While they weren’t filmed in the same location, the homes featured in <em>The Boroughs </em>call to mind those in <em>Don’t Worry Darling, </em>Olivia Wilde’s movie about the residents of another idyllic community with a dark secret. Florence Pugh and Harry Styles’ characters live in a ‘50s-era home in an isolated desert utopia known as Victory. In reality, it’s the Canyon View Estates <a href=”https://visitpalmsprings.com/blog/post/dont-worry-darling-filmed-in-palm-springs/”>neighborhood in the desert resort city of Palm Springs</a> – an iconic development full of midcentury modern homes. Canyon View Estates was also the filming location for the 2018’s post-apocalyptic drama <em>I Think We’re Alone Now, </em>which starred Elle Fanning and Peter Dinklage. </p>
