Did Brooklyn Beckham lie about his mother refusing to make Nicola’s wedding dress?

As it happened, I covered various parts around Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham’s 2022 Florida wedding. Nicola and Brooklyn got a Vogue cover for their actual wedding, and Nicola got several other magazine cover stories following the wedding, where she shared additional details and stories. Well, those interviews are coming back to haunt her, in a way. In Brooklyn’s IG Stories statement on Monday, he claimed that his mother Victoria Beckham was supposed to make Nicola’s wedding gown but Victoria pulled out at the eleventh hour. This contradicts Nicola’s own account of selecting her Valentino gown months in advance, with HER mother by her side.

Brooklyn Peltz Beckham claims his mom, Victoria Beckham, broke her promise to make a wedding dress for his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, “at the eleventh hour,” but a previous report suggests otherwise.

Nicola, 31, wore custom Valentino Haute Couture to walk down the aisle in April 2022. According to Vogue, the look was a long time in the making, and that her bridal look was the product of conversations with former Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s team that spanned at least a year.

Leslie Fremar, Nicola’s stylist at the time, described the process of choosing from sketches, fabrics and other elements as “the ultimate couture experience.”

The year’s worth of conversation, the magazine noted, also included two trips to Rome and two fittings in the United States. “Seeing all the runway dresses in real life was so magic,” Nicola told Vogue ahead of the ceremony about visiting the atelier. “It looked like someone’s dream closet.”

Preparations also included a fitting with Nicola trying on a mock-up of the garment before additional changes were made to the final design. “The simplicity of it was magnificent,” Fremar said at the time. “We didn’t have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery.”

The head seamstresses also traveled to Florida — Nicola and Brooklyn, 26, tied the knot at the bride’s Palm Beach estate — to ensure every detail of the look, which included a sleeveless square neckline and cathedral-length train, went off without a hitch, per Vogue.

The magazine’s reporting, which was first published on April 10, 2022, seemingly contradicts Brooklyn’s new claim that his fashion designer mom, 51, was set to design his bride’s gown, but pulled out at the last minute.

While it’s more than possible that Nicola and Brooklyn are lying or misrepresenting this one particular story, I’d like to add my two cents – I think it’s possible that both stories are true, because I think it’s likely that Nicola wanted multiple gowns and multiple looks for her wedding. While it’s clear that her Valentino gown was a year-long process, what’s less clear is what Nicola’s original plans were for all of her reception and party looks. She might have intended to wear a VB design after the ceremony, you know? It would make sense, especially if you believe that Victoria skipped out on making the dress at the last minute. Victoria might have learned that Nicola intended for her Valentino gown to be the big look featured in all of the photos, and Victoria was like “why bother making the reception look?”
