U.S. Congressman Says EPA, DOJ Protected Monsanto in RoundUp Supreme Court Hearings

Rep. Thomas Massie

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie, who lost his reelection bid earlier this month to Trump-endorsed newcomer Ed Gallrein, revealed Thursday that he attended the Supreme Court hearings for the Durnell RoundUp case.

On Wednesday, the Court ruled 7-2 in favor of Bayer, the maker of the weed killer RoundUp, overturning a $1.25 million Missouri jury award to a cancer patient (Durnell) and declaring that federal law preempts state-level ‘failure-to-warn’ lawsuits alleging that RoundUp causes cancer.

Massie wrote: “I attended the Supreme Court arguments. Trump DOJ argued alongside Bayer/Monsanto that because the EPA had already blessed glyphosate, no state government could require labels disclosing cancer risk. The EPA & DOJ in this instance was only there to protect Bayer.”

When an X user wrote: “Today’s ruling in favor of Monsanto proves what I have said for a long time: government agencies don’t protect citizens from large corporations, rather they protect large corporations from citizens. Our government is illegitimate and no, your ‘side’ is not going to fix it,” Massie replied, “That is correct.”

MAHA advocate Kelly Ryerson (a.k.a. “Glyphosate Girl”) wrote on X: “Today’s SCOTUS ruling is historic. Never in history has an administration so blatantly and willingly sold out our fertility, vitality, and health to corporate interests.”

She added, “It is unforgivable. We will make sure all voters know exactly how this domestic chemical attack happened.”
