Trump’s Congress Pick in Texas: “We Need More People in Washington That Are Sold Out to Jesus Christ”

President Trump

President Trump endorsed Texas salesman Jon Bonck, who’s running for U.S. Representative Wesley Hunt‘s seat representing Texas’ 38th Congressional District. Bonck is on the ballot in the GOP primary runoff on May 26.

[NOTE: The MAGA-aligned Hunt ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senator John Cornyn‘s seat, rather than seeking re-election to the House. Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton will face off in a runoff in that race, with neither candidate having secured Trump’s endorsement.]

Bonck is promoting himself as a deeply Christian conservative. On Monday, he launched a new ad (see below), which features him in church with his family, and wrote: “We need more people in Washington that are sold out to Jesus Christ.”

On Sunday, Bonck shared the photo below of his wife and children headed into church and wrote: “Take your family to church!”

In the GOP runoff, Bonck faces Republican pilot Shelly deZevallos, president of the West Houston Airport, who was appointed by both Trump and Governor Greg Abbott to transportation and business-related advisory boards.

DeZevallos is promoting herself as a “Trump conservative,” one who is running for office “to back law enforcement, crack down on violent crime, deport illegal immigrants, keep dangerous drugs off our streets.”

[NOTE: Whoever wins the GOP runoff will face the Democratic primary winner, realtor Melissa McDonough, in the general election in November. McDonough, who has promoted her participation in “No Kings” demonstrations, is running her campaign on mantras including, “People deserve leaders who will focus on economic stability, opportunity, and policies that strengthen working families.”]
