Fox News conservative political commentator Steven Hilton, former Director of Strategy for former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron, announced today that he has received the endorsement of President Donald Trump as he runs for Governor of California.
The other Republican candidate in the race is Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco. Incumbent Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, a major Trump antagonist widely expected to run for President in 2028, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term as Governor.
As heard below, Hilton said he’s “deeply honored” by the Trump endorsement and added: “The Democrat machine arrogantly assumes it will rule forever. Well they’re in for a shock: Californians are desperate for change, and I will work harder than you’ve ever seen, for everyone in our beautiful state, to make it happen.”

There are eight Democrats running for Governor including U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and former U.S. Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), who voiced her concern about the crowded field, which some fear will dilute the Democratic platform and open a path for a Republican winner.
“I think it is terrifying to think about what Trump would do to Californians,” Porter said, “if we had a governor who at every turn cooperated with him rather than stood up for our California values.”
Porter added, “So I don’t think it’s a certainty, but I do think it’s a risk, and I think the stakes are very, very, very high.” The other Democratic candidates adding to Porter’s risk scenario are:
- Xavier Becerra, former U.S. Health and Human Services secretary and former California Attorney General
- Matt Mahan, mayor of San Jose
- Tom Steyer, billionaire entrepreneur and former presidential candidate
- Tony Thurmond, state superintendent of public instruction
- Antonio Villaraigosa, former mayor of Los Angeles and former Assembly Speaker
- Betty Yee, former state Controller
