Senator Says “People Will Go To Jail” for Trump’s Wall Street “Insider” Subscription

Trump Media, the company that runs the Truth Social media platform and is majority-owned by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, is being criticized by Trump opponents for launching Truth API, a media subscription service that delivers Truth Social posts faster to subscribers.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) calls the offering an “insider trading subscription service,” as the President frequently uses the platform to post official statements on economic policy and global affairs.

Murphy wrote of the President: “He doesn’t care anymore. It’s just non-stop, in-your-face corruption. The latest? If you pay Trump $100,000 a month, he will give you advance White House announcements on economic and trade policy. An insider trading subscription service. People will go to jail for this.”

[NOTE: Trump Media reportedly pitched $100k/month subscriptions to Wall Street firms, “since his posts often move markets with policy news like tariffs.”]

Former SEC official Renée Jones responded the subscription and told NPR: “So if the president’s Truth Social posts are being monetized, and if some people get special access to them, that’s misappropriated information. And by giving people his posts early, he is also violating his duty of trust and confidence.”

Jones added: “That said, I could imagine Trump’s lawyers arguing that because they announced it out in the open, it’s not deceitful, it’s not fraudulent.”
