Staunch conservative political pundit Ann Coulter surprised some of her 2-plus million X followers when she responded to Pulitzer Prize-winner Nick Kristof‘s new op-ed in The New York Times, titled ‘Does Trump Risk Turning America Into a Rogue State?’
On X, Coulter –a vocal early Trump supporter who later grew disenchanted with the President when measuring the policy against the promises — amplified the first three paragraphs from Kristof’s article:
“Suppose Iran dispatched operatives to Mexico, where, from the Texas border, they fired a missile at an American base and, unintentionally but carelessly, demolished a nearby American school, killing 175 people.
“What if they then blew up fuel depots, showering a chemical rain.
“In that case, President Trump — and all of us — would howl at outrageous attacks on innocent civilians. And we’d be right.”
Kristof responded: “@AnnCoulter I can’t believe you and I agree on something! But I’m glad we do. The bigger the tent, the better.”

Republican-turned-Democratic political strategist George Conway, who’s running (as a Dem) for Congress in New York to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), responded to Kristof with a flushed-faced emoji with wide eyes.
Not all on X are convinced that Coulter can help “heal the divide” including progressive political writer Jordan Meadows who replied to Kristof: “Unless she supports Democrats in the next election, I’m not sure how one could be in the same tent. Criticisms are cheap, voting takes a bit of an effort.”
Note: In 2024, Coulter didn’t endorse Trump but did say she would vote for him despite thinking he is an “awful, awful person.” Coulter also approved of Trump’s pick of Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) as his running mate.
