Former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has been called a “traitor” by President Trump, responded to a new YouGov poll showing that 42 percent of Americans believe Republicans are “a greater threat to free speech” than Democrats, while only 28 percent of Americans believe Democrats are “a greater threat to free speech.”
Greene wrote: “I’m shocked, but I’m not. The Biden admin and Democrats literally worked with social media companies to censor people. My account I’m using right now was permanently banned, only brought back because Elon bought Twitter. But this shows you how badly Trump and Republicans have failed. This is the result of turning MAGA into MIGA, becoming big tech’s biggest defender, and trying to put a 10 yr moratorium on states to make laws and regulations on AI. Republicans brought it on themselves.”
[NOTE: MIGA is an acronym for Make Iran Great Again, used derisively by Greene and other “America First” opponents of Trump’s Iran war.]

Greene’s comments are being met with a variety of responses from MAGA supporters, ranging from “you are a traitor” to “the two parties are the same now.”
One X user replied with a link to an article about Greene’s ban, writing: “Your account was banned because you harassed a grieving mother on the street and you believe in space lasers. You’re nuts.”

[NOTE: Prior to being elected to Congress, Greene indicated support on social media for executing prominent Democratic politicians (Pelosi, Obama, Clinton), and for baseless conspiracy theories claiming that mass shootings including the 2018 school shooting at Parkland were “false flag” operations.]
Linda Beigel, the mother of one of the children killed, Scott Beigel, told CNN of Greene: “She has no right to trivialize the murder of 17 innocent lives that were taken on February 14, 2018. She has no right to negate Scott’s heroism. And she has no right to demean my son’s memory with her conspiracy theories. She just has no right. And we need to speak out because we need to take that right away from her.”
In the 2022 incident Greene referenced in her post, while she was a member of Congress, then-Twitter banned her “permanently” for spreading misinformation about COVID-19. Her account had been banned four times prior to the permanent ban. Greene said the permanent ban proved the company is “an enemy to America.”
