U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), who is running for re-election against Trump-endorsed farmer Ed Gallrein, reported today: “Another public poll is out! It shows us with a 5 point lead. Too close for comfort.”
Massie’s former congressional colleague, ex-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has become a vocal critic of President Trump, amplified Massie’s post and added: “The baby boomers are brainwashed by Fox News and dark money tv ads. Please baby boomers wake up! You are manipulated and lied into supporting the worst candidates giving us $40 Trillion in debt and nonstop America Last! Thomas Massie IS everything they claim to be!!!”

According to Big Data Poll, the company that conducted the poll (which included interviewing 433 registered Republican likely primary voters): “When those who identify as America First/MAGA were asked to choose between the two, America First easily won out over MAGA, 67.8% to 32.2%. Nearly 1 in 4 (23.0%) of the 20.1% of Registered Republicans who identified as Independent say they ‘previously identified with America First / MAGA, but now no longer do’.”
There is, of course, a lot of ambiguity concerning political labels like MAGA and “America First” — with some Trump detractors like Greene still identifying as proponents and accusing Trump and company of abandoning their principles.
Amplifying this confusion is the significant money being spent on ads attacking Massie, which are taking a toll.
Big Data Poll noted that “Voters report a barrage of attacks against the incumbent, with nearly 7 in 10 (68.9%) saying they’ve been exposed to negative ads attacking Rep. Massie.”
The Republican Primary will be held on May 19.
