Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader who was convicted of seditious conspiracy, obstruction of Congress, obstruction of law enforcement, and two counts of conspiracy for his role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, for which he was sentenced to 22 years in prison and then pardoned by President Trump, attended Trump’s “Shield of the Americas” summit at the President’s golf resort, Trump National Doral Miami, on Saturday.
As seen below, Tarrio shared a photo taken of him with a smiling U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and wrote: “With @SecRubio at the Shield of the Americas summit. By far the President Trumps choices [sic] for his cabinet. Proud of this Cuban! Abajo con el comunismo!” (Tarrio added a correction: “The best choice by the President.”)
Note: Both Rubio and Tarrio are of Cuban descent and were born and raised in Miami, Florida.

According to a State Department press release, the “Shield of the Americas” summit welcomed “our strongest likeminded allies in our hemisphere to promote freedom, security, and prosperity in our region” representing a “historic coalition of nations” that “will work together to advance strategies that stop foreign interference in our hemisphere, criminal and narco-terrorist gangs and cartels, and illegal and mass immigration. ”
At the summit, with Trump by his side, Rubio said: “We want the world to see that when you’re a friend and an ally of the United States, it is a good thing. It’s reciprocated.”
