Republican donor and Trump supporter Hal Lambert, founder of the MAGA ETF, is being criticized for echoing President Trump’s claim that “The Strait of Hormuz is going to be open and we’re going to control it” on NewsNight with Abby Phillips.
[NOTE: Lambert’s MAGA ETF is made up of 150 companies from the S&P 500 Index whose political action committees (PACs) are highly supportive of Republican candidates. ETF is shorthand for exchange-traded fund.]
While on CNN discussing a new poll showing 61 percent of Americans under the age of 35 oppose the war in Iran, Lambert was pressed by Democratic supporter Adam Mockler, who asked Lambert when the Strait was going to reopen under U.S. control. Mockler added, “In two weeks?”
[NOTE: President Trump has a long history of projecting that results will be achieved in two weeks. On Monday, he told conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt: “We’ve taken out much of what we’d have to do, probably another two weeks, two weeks, maybe three weeks.” Trump added, “And time is not of the essence for us.” When Trump initiated U.S. military attacks in Iran in February, he predicted the conflict would last “four weeks or so.”]
Lambert: The Strait of Hormuz is going to be open and we’re going to control it.
Mockler: In two weeks?
Lambert: It doesn’t matter if it’s two weeks or two months.
Mockler: It does actually matter because economists are saying if it’s closed for a few more months, we’re going… pic.twitter.com/f0blwpd2RP

As seen above, Lambert replied to Mockler: “It doesn’t matter if it’s two weeks or two months.” Mockler replied: “It does actually matter because economists are saying if it’s closed for a few more months, we’re going to go into a recession.”
Lambert replied: “No one’s predicting that because markets are at an all-time high and the inflation rate has stayed where it is.” Phillips interjected: “Just to be clear, inflation has ticked up, it has not stayed the same.”
[NOTE: Lambert, a veteran banker with Credit Suisse and J.P. Morgan, served on the Inaugural Committee for President Trump and worked as a National Finance Chair for presidential campaigns in 2012 and 2016. He was the Finance Chair for the Texas GOP and has raised funds for numerous U.S. Senate campaigns as well as for candidates in his home state of Texas.]
