House GOP Mocked for “Slush Fund” Comment, “Spare Us the Victory Lap”

House Speaker Mike Johnson

House Republicans are being criticized for condemning “slush funds” after President Trump’s Justice Department said it would “abide by a federal judge’s temporary order not to proceed with any steps to activate” the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund created for those the administration deemed victims of aggressive Biden-era DOJ prosecutions, including those who attacked the Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

The House GOP account on X wrote on Monday: “For too long, Washington has treated your hard-earned tax dollars like a personal slush fund. Billions wasted. Billions stolen through fraud. Billions thrown at programs that do NOTHING for the American people. House Republicans are ENDING the era of government waste and making sure every dollar spent is a dollar that serves YOU. Not the bureaucrats, not the lobbyists, not the radical left. YOUR money deserves BETTER.”

Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) replied: “Did you really just say ‘slush fund’, Dude.”

Gerald Griggs, former President of Georgia’s NAACP, also replied to House GOP: “Calling government spending a ‘slush fund’ is rich coming from the same people promoting the Trump 1.776 Fund. If we’re serious about ending waste, let’s start with taxpayer-funded political slush funds and giveaways to the wealthy and well-connected. Accountability shouldn’t depend on who’s in power.”

Self-described ‘America First’ X user Michael Bennett agreed with the GOP sentiment, but pointed out its distance from reality, replying: “Yes, cut the waste. Cut the fraud. Cut the slush funds. But spare us the victory lap. Washington is still running massive deficits, sending foreign blank checks, protecting corporate carveouts, and using taxpayers as a campaign slogan. We are tired of speeches. Show us results. Until then, both parties can be in the same doghouse.”
