Energy Secretary Attacked for Ending Wind and Solar Subsidies, “November Is Coming”

Sec. Chris Wright

President Trump’s Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced Friday via video: “I’m thrilled to report that after 35 years, on July 4th, we will end the subsidies for new wind and solar projects, thanks to President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut.”

While MAGA-aligned politicians are applauding the decision, including Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), who replied, “Cheers. The grift was strong and deserved to be kneecapped. More to do,” Democrats voiced fierce objection.

U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) warned: “I am not thrilled to report that the trump Administration is jacking up energy costs even more by reducing supply. November is coming.”

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) responded to Wright’s announcement: “Wind and solar don’t just cut carbon emissions. They are also the cheapest forms of energy, period. Our choice: double down on fossil fuels that are driving record heat across the world, or cut utility bills AND address the climate crisis by moving to sustainable energy.”

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) replied: “Dude no one has heard of is thrilled he cancelled renewable energy so we can pay more for overseas energy due to illegal wars. Can’t make this [expletive] up.”

Marianne Williamson, who ran against Trump in the 2024 presidential election, reacted to Wright: “He says this like it’s something to be proud of.”

Political pundits are also criticizing the Trump administration, including former Republican prosecutor Ron Filipkowski who replied: “Xi Jinping thanks you for your service to his country.”

[NOTE: In January, President Trump said at the World Economic Forum: “China makes almost all of the windmills, and yet I haven’t been able to find any windfarms in China. Did you ever think of that? It’s a good way of looking. You know, they’re smart. China is very smart. They make them. They sell them for a fortune. They sell them to the stupid people that buy them, but they don’t use them themselves.” According to Global Energy Monitor: “China accounts for nearly half of all operating wind capacity globally and is building more wind energy than the rest of the world combined.”]

Progressive political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen wrote: “At this point, these people should get awarded the Chinese version of the Medal of Honor because no one is doing more to position China to own the future than America’s Republican Party.”

Independent journalist Mehdi Hasan replied: “Wright is a former fracking CEO who Trump installed as his energy secretary. Jill Stein told me in 2024 there was no difference between Biden and Trump on the climate.”
