The Houston Astros are coming off a series where they lost two of three to the Toronto Blue Jays.
After an off day on Thursday, Houston will head out west to face the San Diego Padres in a weekend set.
Despite the recent series loss, the Astros still have a slight lead in the AL West over the Rangers.
Before that Padres series begins, Houston made a notable roster move, which included demoting a three-year player to the minors.

Astros Option Zach Dezenzo Before Padres Series

According to MLB.com’s transactions tracker, Zach Dezenzo has been optioned to AAA Sugar Land:
“Houston Astros optioned LF Zach Dezenzo to Sugar Land Space Cowboys.”
He has been recalled and optioned a few times this season, but Dezenzo has been up with the MLB club for the better part of a month.
A corresponding move may be announced by the Houston Astros tomorrow afternoon before their series with the Padres officially begins.
Dezenzo has played in parts of three MLB seasons with the Stros, and over 75 at-bats this season, he’s batting .213 with 16 hits, one home run, and 3 RBI. He’s a quality infield depth option, and it’s certainly plausible that he will be up with the big-league squad again this season.

Zach Dezenzo’s MLB Career Thus Far

As noted, Dezenzo is an MLB veteran of three seasons.
Across 230 at-bats in 3 seasons, he’s batted .234 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and a lifetime OPS of .646.
The Astros drafted him in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB draft.
In 212 total minor-league games, Dezenzo has batted .290 with 34 home runs and 48 doubles, which signals that he’s a true ‘4A’ player. One that is a little too good for the minor leagues, but has struggled to find offensive production in the Majors.
