Outside of the baseball itself, few things are more important than the voice calling the game each and every day on your television.
For San Francisco Giants fans, that voice over the last 36 years has belonged to Mike Krukow.
Krukow was a former MLB pitcher who spent 14 seasons in the majors before becoming a broadcaster alongside Duane Kuiper in 1990. The duo became known as “Kruk and Kuip” and has become one of baseball’s most beloved broadcasting teams.
On Thursday, at 74 years old, Krukow officially announced that he will retire at the end of the season with a heartfelt statement.
Krukow’s Message
The Giants shared Krukow’s statement on social media, while ESPN’s Jeff Passan also broke the news. Krukow reflected on his career and thanked fans for their unwavering support.
“I just want to let everyone know that I will be retiring at the end of the season. I want to take this time to thank you for your incredible support,” Krukow wrote.
“Jennifer and I have been so blessed to be able to stay in the game for as long as we have, and it’s really made it impossible to feel sorry for myself that my career is coming to an end.
“We are bracing for the emotional hits we know we are going to feel in the next few weeks. Jennifer and I are wondering if it is even possible to let everyone know how deeply we love and respect our Giants family.
“Our time together has been a gift. When Green Day asked, ‘I hope you’ve had the time of your lives,’ we certainly have. Thank you.”

“We’ll miss you, Kruk. Hope you have fun in retirement,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “The best. One of a kind. Has made the entire fan base more knowledgeable about the game of baseball.”
Another person wrote, “One of one! Kruk and Kuip are the best to ever do it.”
“Best wishes, Kruk! Thank you for all you’ve done for us fans. You’ll be missed!” a fan shared.
One more commented, “Oh my gosh! It won’t be the same without you, Mike! Thanks for all of the amazing years. You and Kuip are the best!! Glad you’re choosing on your own terms when to ‘grab some pine, meat!’ Happy trails to you.”
