After reports that Atlanta Braves‘ starter Hurston Waldrep has been progressing well after solving a ‘loose bodies’ issue in his elbow, the young starter for Atlanta is set to officially go on a rehab assignment to put his ‘stuff’ back to the test.
Atlanta Braves X account wrote (on June 1): “RHP Hurston Waldrep today begins a rehabilitation assignment with the FCL Braves.”
This is good news for the Braves, who will welcome even more starting pitcher depth to their rotation in *likely* about a month.

The Atlanta Braves are off on Monday and will open up a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, so all eyes are on Hurston Waldrep and his first rehab start.
Here are some reactions from those who cover the Braves closely:
Hurston Waldrep’s MLB Career
Hurston Waldrep was called up by the Atlanta Braves towards the end of the 2024 season after the Braves were so decimated in their rotation. He saw more MLB time in 2025, and had a great showing, which has led to many believing he could be a big part of the Braves’ future.
The team used a first-round pick on Hurston Waldrep in 2023 out of the University of Florida.
Over nine starts and 10 appearances in ’25, Waldrep posted a 2.88 ERA over 56.1 innings of work with the big league club. He had 55 strikeouts as well. His rehab assignment progression will be one to keep an eye on over the next month.
