Colts Named “Underrated” Landing Spot for $60 Million All-Pro

Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr. were a formidable wide receiver duo in the 2025 season. The wide receivers combined for 1,787 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns with an Indianapolis Colts quarterback room that suffered multiple injuries.

But to make room for Pierce (and Daniel Jones), the Colts had to trade away Pittman Jr. after he played six seasons with the organization.

While Indy retained Pierce and Jones, the Colts’ wide receiver room lacks depth with Pittman Jr. now playing in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

An NFL writer listed the Colts as one of five “underrated” landing spots for a wide receiver in the NFC, who’s likely on their way out this offseason.

As noted above, Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr. accounted for 1,787 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. They amassed almost half of the team’s passing yards and more than half of the team’s pass touchdowns in the 2025 season.

Now needing a new weapon in the receiving core, the Indianapolis Colts need to go out and pick up a new teammate for Pierce.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport listed the Colts as one of five underrated landing spots for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

“It’s something of a weird year in Indianapolis. The Colts extended quarterback Daniel Jones, but his early-season availability remains in doubt after an Achilles tear,” Davenport wrote. “The team also gave wide receiver Alec Pierce a big contract after his first 1,000-yard season, but traded fellow wideout Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers… That trade left the Colts thin at wide receiver.”

“But if Indianapolis believes Jones will be ready to go at or near Week 1, it makes sense for the team to take a flier on Aiyuk… Because while his layoff and the way his tenure in San Francisco ended are risks, it’s not going to take a high draft pick to get him.”

Through five seasons, Aiyuk has hauled 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdown catches, with 2 rushing TDs.

The wide receiver played in 7 games for San Fran last season after suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, which could be in Indy’s favor if they want to be on the cheap end.

Brandon Aiyuk has made around $60.7 million in his professional career.

Colts Head Coach on the Receiving Room

The Indianapolis Colts look for a better season than in 2025 after starting 7-1 before finishing 8-9.

With a lack of options at the receiver position as of now, Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that a few players will get more reps and targets ahead of next season.

“Tyler [Warren], Alec [Pierce], Josh [Downs], [we’ll be] getting more targets for those guys,” the head coach said at the NFL Annual Meeting.

Warren had a strong rookie season, earning a nod on the All-Rookie team. Downs recorded 771 or more receiving yards in his first two seasons, but had regressed slightly in 2025.

If the coaching staff feels like they need another option, Brandon Aiyuk will be available.
