Kyle Schwarber’s Home Run Pace Rivals Barry Bonds

Philadelphia Phillies All-Star slugger Kyle Schwarber is on pace to do something that’s never been seen before in MLB.

As of May 14th, ‘Schwarbomb’ is on pace to smack 67 home runs. No player in baseball history has ever landed on exactly 67 bombs. If he were to reach said threshold, it would be the highest total without steroid implications in MLB history.

All Kyle Schwarber Does is Hit Bombs, and He Recently Made History

The 33-year-old designated hitter has already posted 18 homers in 2026’s infancy. All the extra-base bombs have led to an OPS of .963 and 1.5 WAR. As a primary DH, that kind of production is, in a word, alien.

Since 2022, the left-hander hasn’t dipped below 38 long balls. For reference, only eight hitters put up 38+ bombs last season, one being Schwarber.

Schwarber’s latest missile moved him into a tie for 95th all-time in home runs. He’s now tied with Carlos Lee and Hall of Fame Yankees catcher Yogi Berra.

While Philadelphia struggles to stay afloat, the S.S. Schwarber is full steam ahead. His ruthless clout of every four-seamer in sight is an unprecedented level of power

MLB World Reacts to Kyle Schwarber’s Historic Pace

Here’s what people are saying about Schwarber’s power surge:

@RobBballHistory: “Kyle Schwarber hit his 358th career HR, tying Carlos Lee and Hall of Famer Yogi Berra for 95th on the All Time HR list.”

Bob Nightengale: “Kyle Schwarber continues to put on a power show. He hits his 18th homer in the Phillies’ 44th game. He’s now on pace for 66 HRs after leading the NL with 56 homers a year ago. The only players in history to hit 66 HRs are Barry Bonds (73), Mark McGwire (70) and Sammy Sosa (66).

Jordan Moore: “Kyle Schwarber has 18 home runs. The Red Sox have just 18 wins.”

OldTimeHardBall: “The Kyle Schwarber march to 500 HR is worth the price of admission.”

Corey Seidman: “It is staggering the number of games as a Phillie Kyle Schwarber has rescued an offense that was doing nothing. However much credit he gets, it isn’t enough. The Phils are 72-22 in games he’s homered the last three seasons. How many more of those 94 games are losses if the Phillies have a generic DH rather than Kyle Schwarber? 40 of them? I really don’t think that’s as outlandish a number as it might seem if you go back through the context of these games and series.”

JustBaseballMedia: “Kyle Schwarber has picked up right where he left off a season ago, keeping the Phillies’ offense afloat during their slow start. Our @fischeronphils has more on Schwarber already proving to be worth every penny.”

The Rest of the Phillies Offense Can’t Keep up With Schwarber

Other than the obviously elite Bryce Harper, Philadelphia has been short on offense in 2026.

The Phillies rank 23rd in batting average, 22nd in OPS, and 28th in walks.

Specific hitters who have seen better days include Alec Bohm (47 OPS+), Trea Turner (75 OPS+), Adolis Garcia (80 OPS+), and Bryson Stott (73 OPS+).

If Philadelphia wants to turn its season around, it’ll need more than just Schwarbombs. With a record of 21-23 and already nine games back of the division-leading Braves, it’s now or never.
