LaMelo Ball Reveals Unique Name After Welcoming First Child

LaMelo Ball and Ana Montana are officially entering a new chapter together, and the internet had plenty to say about the name they chose for their son.

The Charlotte Hornets star and Montana, whose real name is Analicia Chaves, welcomed their first child together earlier this year, according to PEOPLE. The couple revealed that their son’s name is LaOne, a detail that quickly exploded across social media after fans struggled to believe it was real news.

“Welcoming LaOne into the world has changed our hearts in the best way,” the couple told PEOPLE. “Family has always meant everything to us, but becoming parents has given us an entirely new perspective on love, purpose, legacy and what truly matters most.”

The reaction online came almost immediately. Some users thought the announcement originated from parody account NBACentel because of the unusual name choice. One person wrote, “Is he tryna get his son bullied at school,” while another joked, “LMAOOO We’re giving kids NBA 2K gamertag names now?”

Still, plenty of fans embraced the announcement with positivity.

“What a beautiful blessing welcome to the world, little LaOne!” one supporter wrote on X. Another added, “Congrats to LaMelo and Ana, LaOne’s a baller name already.”

LaMelo Ball, Ana Montana Launch Fertility Nonprofit

Alongside the birth announcement, Montana also introduced I Am Fertility, a nonprofit platform focused on supporting women navigating IVF and fertility treatments.

The initiative stems directly from her own IVF experience, which she described as emotionally draining and isolating.

“At one point during my IVF journey, I felt overwhelmed, emotional, isolated and unsure where to turn,” Montana said. “That experience inspired me to create I Am Fertility as a safe space where women don’t have to face this journey alone.”

According to Montana, the platform will provide education, emotional support, reproductive health awareness and access to trusted fertility resources for women going through similar experiences.

“This is more than awareness, it’s about creating real support, real access and a community where women feel seen, understood and hopeful,” she added.

Couple Ties Son’s Arrival to Bigger Mission

Montana will also launch The HOPE Grant through the nonprofit. The organization plans to award two women $5,000 each to help cover IVF and fertility treatment expenses. Applications open on Mother’s Day and close June 1.

For Ball and Montana, the launch of the nonprofit alongside their son’s arrival reflects a larger purpose centered around family and impact.

Ball remains one of the NBA’s most recognizable young stars, and the couple appears intent on using that visibility for something beyond basketball and celebrity headlines. While social media continues debating LaOne’s name, the pair have made it clear their focus remains on parenthood and the mission behind I Am Fertility.

LaOne arrived in January, and his parents are already making sure his arrival carries meaning far beyond their household.

The announcement also marked one of the first major public glimpses into Ball and Montana’s life as parents together. While Ball typically keeps much of his personal life private despite his massive social media following, the couple chose to frame this moment around gratitude, faith and long-term purpose. That combination helped turn a viral baby-name conversation into something much more meaningful.
