If it’s going to be hard believing anything the Denver Broncos tell us moving forward, it’s fair to point out what’s happened around quarterback Bo Nix’s recovery from ankle surgery as the reason why.
The Broncos seem incapable of telling the truth when it comes to Nix’s recovery, which was underlined in recent days after he underwent a surprise, 2nd surgery that now seems to keep him sidelined until training camp.
You know what hurts NFL teams? When their starting quarterback isn’t available to work out with his teammates for an entire offseason.
For a team that seemed like Super Bowl contenders after losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game — without Nix — that’s a problem.
The Broncos were called out for seeming to “gaslight” their fans over the injury to Nix and his recovery by the DNVR Broncos Podcast.
From DNVR: “I’m a little pissed off. I have a range of emotions. I don’t like being gaslit, and I feel like that’s what’s happening here is we were hearing one thing all along … that (Nix) would be ready for all of OTAs. That it would be 6 weeks and he’s at The Masters and he’s walking around and everything’s fine. Ok great. Now all of a sudden it’s ‘He had another procedure and he’s going to miss OTAs, and this was expected all along. Don’t you guys remember?’ I’m like … what do you mean? No it wasn’t. The Broncos were telling us something different and I feel like I’m being gaslit and the reason why is because something’s not right (with Nix’s ankle).”
Broncos Gave Misleading Info Over Nix’s Ankle
The Broncos have given so much misleading information about Nix’s injury to this point that it’s become almost impossible to believe anyone in the organization when they talk about the 3rd year quarterback moving forward.
That’s a blanket statement that covers everyone from owner Greg Penner to general manager George Paton to head coach Sean Payton to Nix himself.
None of them seems to have been prepared to handle the interest and concern from the public about Nix’s health. It’s either that or none of them are capable of telling the truth and couldn’t get their stories straight before news of the 2nd surgery broke.
“Bo Nix and the Broncos’ brass have indicated, if not flat-out said, that Bo will be ready for the offseason program,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens wrote on his official X account on Tuesday night. “In January, Bo said the injury will ‘be absolutely no issue this offseason.’ In March, Greg Penner said: ‘no concerns at all for (the offseason program) and going forward from there.’ In March, Sean Payton said Bo will participate in the offseason program. With tonight’s news of a scheduled clean-up procedure, it appears that timetable might be changing.”
Reports of Bo Nix’s 2nd Surgery Came as Surprise
The reports of Nix’s 2nd surgery came as a surprise not just to Broncos fans but to everyone around the NFL.
“During his scheduled re-check with Dr. Norman Waldrop last week, Broncos QB Bo Nix had a successful and anticipated follow-up clean-up procedure on his ankle,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account on Tuesday night. “While the team is expected to be conservative with his participation during the offseason program, Nix continues to make strong progress in his recovery and remains firmly on track to be ready for the start of training camp.”
