Chicago Sky Coach Sends Message to Angel Reese After Preseason Game

The Chicago Sky welcomed Angel Reese back at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday for their second preseason game against the Atlanta Dream.

Reese received a warm welcome from the Sky fans, while the franchise presented her with a video tribute. She spent the first two years of her career in Chicago before getting traded to Atlanta on April 6.

The two sides decided to move on from each other after Reese’s remarks about the franchise in an interview with Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune.

Despite how things ended between Reese and the Sky, fans inside Wintrust Arena still cheered for their former player. They even gave her a standing ovation at one point.

Reese started at center in her Dream debut, with Brionna Jones out and recovering from a torn meniscus. She played in just 13 minutes, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.

The Dream had a huge first half and held off a Sky rally in the third quarter to hold on for an 87-78 win. Madina Okot led the way for Atlanta, scoring a team-high 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

For Chicago, Sydney Taylor had a game-high 23 points off the bench. Taylor was the only player to score in double figures.

Speaking to reporters after their loss, Marsh revealed what he told Reese.

“It was honestly the first time seeing her since the trade, so I was just telling her to ‘go be great, go kill it,’” Marsh said, via CBS Sports. “She’s with a championship-caliber team, so you saw some of her talents and things that she can do with them tonight. She fits in perfectly and she’ll be great.”

In her lone season under Marsh, Reese averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

It was just her first preseason game with the Dream, but Reese already feels grateful for her new team. She told reporters in her postgame media availability that her transition from Chicago to Atlanta felt “seamless.”

“It’s been super seamless as I think everybody can see and an easy adjustment for me because I think my teammates and my coaches put a lot of confidence in me,” Reese said. “They want me to take the shots that sometimes I’m not confident maybe to take. … I’m just really grateful for all of it.”

The Dream are set to play one more preseason game on May 3 against the Washington Mystics at home inside the Gateway Center Arena.
