Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick Make History as First Brothers to Win PGA Tour Together in 20 Years

Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick delivered a dramatic finish to win the 2026 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, securing a one-shot victory in the PGA Tour’s only official team event. The English brothers combined for a 1-under 71 in Sunday’s alternate-shot format at TPC Louisiana, finishing at a tournament-record 31-under 257.

The win comes at a significant moment in the PGA Tour season and adds to Matt Fitzpatrick’s strong run of form. It also marks a milestone for Alex Fitzpatrick, who earns his first PGA Tour title and secures full playing privileges going forward. Speaking after the round, Matt said, “Yeah, it means the world. Absolutely speechless. It was a grind today, and he was unbelievable. I couldn’t be more proud. That was just truly unbelievable today.”

The victory also places the Fitzpatricks in the record books as the first set of brothers in 20 years to win together on the PGA Tour, highlighting both the rarity of the achievement and its importance in the modern era of professional golf.

The Fitzpatricks entered the final round with a four-shot lead but faced a strong challenge on Sunday. Norwegian pair Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura surged with two eagles, while Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer also moved into contention.

Despite early control with two birdies on the front nine, the leaders lost momentum on the back nine. A double bogey on the 12th hole cut their advantage, and another dropped shot at the 14th created a three-way tie at the top.

The pressure intensified as both Reitan/Ventura and Smalley/Springer reached 30-under in the clubhouse. The Fitzpatricks needed a birdie on the par-5 18th to avoid a playoff.

After Alex found a bunker with the approach, Matt delivered the decisive shot. His bunker effort finished just 14 inches from the hole, setting up a tap-in birdie for Alex to secure the title.

“To win a team event on the PGA Tour with my brother — I don’t know if it does gets better than that,” Matt said(via ESPN). “That’s how special it feels. To get in over the line the way we did and to hang in there on the back nine is incredible.”

Alex described the moment as career-defining, saying, “I couldn’t feel my hands. I couldn’t feel my legs. I couldn’t feel anything. It’s a pretty life-changing thing.”

The win makes the Fitzpatricks the 13th set of brothers to each record a PGA Tour victory and the first in two decades to win together, either as a team or individually in the same era.
