Rockets Announcement Leads to Major Kevin Durant Speculation

The Houston Rockets are looking to get back on track in Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, April 21. The status of the injured Kevin Durant is the biggest question mark heading into the matchup.

On Monday night, the Rockets submitted an injury report with Durant still on it. The superstar forward is listed as questionable due to a knee contusion. Houston head coach Ime Udoka already stated that Durant would be a game-time decision.

As Durant’s status looms, the Rockets left fans paranoid with their usual game announcement on social media. By sharing a Game 2 preview picture, the Rockets left Durant out of the picture, leaving fans to speculate about his status.

Rockets Fans See It As A Sign

Here’s what fans were saying on X after the announcement:

Juanitoooo21: Whose ready to go down 0-2 and fire ime after the series?? 🖐️.

KelPatrick007: No KD in the graphic? Oh Houston losing again today LMAOOO.

Marrgeeez: No kd on the graphic Lakers in 4.

Olarrr122: No KD? Down 2-0

bolabasket95: KD is not in the graphics. Is he out again?

As some pointed out, Durant was included in the Game 1 preview graphic. He was ultimately ruled out, which confirms that the only pregame announcement that truly matters is the official status announcement, which is expected 30 minutes before the game tips off.

Still, fans can’t help but feel doubt in the situation. Even if Durant gets a chance to make his playoff debut with the Rockets, there’s no telling what kind of shape his knee will be in. The injury is fresh, occurring during the week of practice leading up to the postseason. He hasn’t played in an actual game since it happened.

The Rockets Are In A Tough Spot

The Lakers are missing Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, but they’ve battled enough setbacks with their core guys throughout the year to know how to adjust to certain guys being out.

As for the Rockets, they only missed Durant for a handful of games throughout the season. Game 1 was a major test that they didn’t anticipate taking and they ended up failing.

Going into a 0-2 hole with the potential of Doncic and Reaves coming back at some point would put the Rockets in a tough spot. While some speculate that Durant could be out, the star forward’s status is far from finalized.
