Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith Link Up with Eagles’ WR Target Before Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles have spent the offseason tinkering with their wide receiver room amid rumors that A.J. Brown could get traded before the start of the new campaign. Even with all that being said, it’s clear that the team’s dynamic duo in the passing game is quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Hurts and Smith have formed a strong rapport early on in their careers, and should Brown get traded, this duo will have more responsibility on their plates in 2026 and beyond. Even with guys like Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore being brought to town already this offseason, Philly may not be done adding at this spot, as Hurts and Smith have reportedly been getting work in with Temple Owls wide receiver Kajiya Hollawayne ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Smith has spent the majority of his career working as the 1B to Brown’s 1A, but he could be tasked with stepping up and leading the wide receiver room if Brown gets traded. Even with Brown in town, Smith has remained quite productive, as he caught 77 passes for 1,008 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Hurts is proficient when it comes to spreading the ball around, though, which makes every playmaker on Philly’s offense dangerous. That’s why this duo throwing with Hollawayne ahead of the draft is so notable. Sure, he may end up being an undrafted free agent, but Hollawayne already has a relationship with Hurts and familiarity with what it’s like to work alongside Smith.

In 2025, Hollawayne flashed his potential by catching 39 passes for 489 yards and six scores. Standing at 6’4, Hollawayne can off big plays on the outside of the field, which makes him a perfect complement for Smith, who can line up all over the field. Considering how he is already familiar with both Hurts and Smith, he seems to be firmly on Philadelphia’s radar heading into the draft.

“Temple WR Kajiya Hollawayne had some NFL-caliber tutelage leading up to the Draft via regular throwing sessions with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts and WR DeVonta Smith this month,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network shared in a post on X. “Got a message from the football office one day to show up ready to work. And he was. Good experience.”

Should the Eagles Draft Kajiya Hollawayne?

Hollawayne is a very raw prospect who is going to need time to develop at the professional level, so expecting him to contribute right away would be a mistake. However, any sort of link to a team (or in this case, a group of players) is something that needs to be kept in mind ahead of the draft, especially considering all the work the Eagles have already done to their wide receiver room.

If Hollawayne is going to come off the board, it’s going to be during Day 3 of the draft, particularly the sixth or seventh rounds. There’s a chance he could go undrafted, but given his ties to Hurts and Smith, the front office may go out of its way to bring him to town if they have the ability to do so late in the draft. Hollawayne isn’t the flashiest name available, but it’s clear he’s going to be a target for Philadelphia.
