Justin Allgaier Wins at Darlington After Late Restart as Kyle Larson Falls Short

Justin Allgaier delivered when it mattered most Saturday night at Darlington Raceway, turning a steady run into a decisive late-race victory in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200.

The JR Motorsports driver used a strong restart and clean execution over the final laps to secure his second win of the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season. The result marked his fourth career victory at Darlington and the 30th of his career, tying him with Joey Logano for seventh on the all-time wins list.

While others showed more raw speed throughout the race, Allgaier stayed within reach and capitalized on the opportunity when it came late.

Kyle Larson Dominates Early Before Pit Road Setback

Kyle Larson set the tone from the start after winning the pole and leading 107 laps. Driving the No. 88, he controlled both stages and appeared to have the race firmly in hand through the opening segments. His car showed clear pace, especially on long runs, and he handled traffic well during the early and middle portions.

The race shifted under caution on lap 127 following a multi-car incident. Larson’s slow pit stop during that sequence dropped him back to fifth with limited laps remaining. That loss of track position proved costly at a track where passing became more difficult late in the race.

“It became tougher to pass. At the end, the pace picked up, and you’re stuck. Unfortunate, but that’s the way racing is sometimes. That sucks, but I had a lot of fun today.”

Justin Allgaier Executes on Final Restart

Allgaier positioned himself well through consistent pit stops earlier in the race, which allowed him to line up on the outside for the final restart. He made a clean move past Brandon Jones and quickly cleared for the lead.

From there, he controlled the closing laps without a serious challenge.

“These guys have never quit all year, they won the race. They’ve never given up. They were on top of it all day on pit road.”

He acknowledged that his car did not match Larson’s pace for much of the event.

“We definitely weren’t the best all day. Kyle obviously was amazing. He had us covered. I didn’t do a very good job with it all day, if I’m being honest with you. Probably one of the worst days personally I’ve had here at Darlington.”

Even after taking the lead, Allgaier stayed aware of the pressure behind him.

“At the end there, I was worried about Brandon, he had a fast car, and I was worried that the 19 and the 88 were going to get through the traffic there,” he added.

Strong Finish Boosts Points Lead and Momentum

Christopher Bell finished third, while Larson recovered to fourth after the pit road issue. Rookie Carson Kvapil completed the top five. Brandon Jones, who briefly held the lead late, settled behind Allgaier after the final restart.

The win extended JR Motorsports’ streak to four consecutive victories and pushed Allgaier’s points lead to 52 over defending champion Jesse Love, who finished 11th.

Beyond the numbers, the result carried added meaning for the veteran driver.

“Nobody will ever know, the later you get into your career, how much these victories mean. And to come to Darlington, a place I’ve loved for so long, is really special.”

Allgaier becomes the first repeat winner of the 2026 season, strengthening his position as the series moves deeper into the schedule.
