Trade speculation surrounding Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown took another turn Tuesday after a revealing update from Adam Schefter on The Pat McAfee Show added a clearer timeline to the situation.
After Jaylen Waddle was traded to the Broncos, Schefter provided some key notes.
âI never heard that Denver was involved in any talks for A.J. Brown,â Schefter said during the appearance. âIf the Eagles are gonna trade him it makes sense to do it post June 1.â
That comment may be the most important detail yet in what has become one of the NFL offseasonâs most closely watched storylines. While rumors have connected multiple teams to Brown, Schefterâs update suggests the timing is the key factor shaping how this situation unfolds.
Eagles Post-June 1 Timeline Becomes Critical
The reasoning behind Schefterâs timeline is rooted in finances. If the Philadelphia Eagles were to move Brown before June 1, they would take on a massive dead cap hit of roughly $43 million. Waiting until after June 1 drops that number significantly to around $16 million.
That gap is not minor. It’s the difference between a nearly unworkable move and a realistic one.
Schefterâs comment reinforces what many around the league have suspected: even if a trade is likely, it is not imminent. Philadelphia has every incentive to wait, both to manage the salary cap and to potentially drive up the asking price as more teams reassess their rosters deeper into the offseason.
At the same time, Schefter made it clear he still leans toward a deal eventually happening.
âI would still lean towards an A.J. Brown trade because thatâs what I think he prefers,â he said.
