Rhamondre Stevenson’s Family: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Rhamondre Stevenson is the starting running back for the New England Patriots, a fifth-year back who was a fourth-round pick in 2021. Stevenson rushed for 603 yards on 130 carries, overcoming fumbling issues that plagued him in 2024 when he led the NFL in non-quarterback fumbles (seven), and cropped up again in 2025. Now, he is in Super Bowl 60.

Stevenson had two fumbles in a Week 3 loss to the Steelers, and there was talk at the time that perhaps the Patriots could waive him because he could not be trusted with the ball. But he adjusted his carrying style, got a vote of confidence from coach Mike Vrabel, and had just one fumble for the rest of the season from there.

Stevenson has carried for 194 yards in three playoff games, and he’ll be critical for the Patriots’ attempts to crack the Seattle Seahawks defense. He’s put together a productive season despite personal tragedy.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Rhamondre Stevenson’s Father, Robert Stevenson, Died at Age 54 in March 2025

There were first some hints that something was wrong with Stevenson this offseason when he did not appear for the team’s OTAs, but word soon leaked out about the reason for that: Stevenson’s father, Robert, had died suddenly at home in Las Vegas in March, and the Patriots had granted him time to grieve. Running backs coach Tony Dews even traveled to Las Vegas to visit with Stevenson during that period.

Stevenson said the Patriots’ understanding during that period, “meant a lot.” He had been close to his father and revealed that he would talk to Robert before every game..

When he did return to the team, Stevenson was his usual understated self, quickly turning his attention to football: “The same as any other year. Got back to it a little bit late, I’ve got some things going on in my life. But the same principles, same standard. But I am out here now, trying to get myself back into shape and get ready for camp.”

2. Stevenson Has Worn His Late Father’s Ashes on Him During the Patriots’ Season

Stevenson is typically media-shy, but in the pressure-cooker environment of the Super Bowl, there is no way to escape the media. So he answered, patiently, questions about his father throughout the run-up to the game and made clear that he would be bringing Robert’s memory with him.

Literally, in fact. Back before the season began, Stevenson revealed that he had a bracelet made that contains the ashes of his father. In an earlier interview with longtime WBZ reporter Dan Roche, Stevenson said: “Me and my dad were best friends. Every time I come out here, I hear his voice talking to me … I know he is still with me and carrying that love with me and my family.”

3. His Mother, Juran Stevenson, Worked 2 Jobs to Help Support Stevenson’s Football Dreams

For Rhamondre Stevenson, the path to NFL glory was not an easy one. Though he was a natural talent, he struggled with his grades in school, and was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. He was ready to give up on football, and was working as a shelf-stocker in Wal-Mart. But Stevenson worked to improve his academics by going to Cerritos Junior College, which started his journey to Oklahoma University and on to the NFL.

But Juran Stevenson worked hard to get him through that time. According to a Las Vegas Sun story from 2021, she rarely took a day off while Rhamondre was at junior college. “She frequently would return home from her second job at 3:30 a.m., only to awake a few hours later to start the grind all over again. A lab technician, she logged 72 over two jobs at Comprehensive Cancer Centers and Summerlin Hospital,” the story noted.

4. Rhamondre Stevenson Grew Up as One of 7 Brothers and Sisters in Las Vegas

It was a busy household for the Stevensons in Las Vegas, as the family had seven children. Both Juran Stevenson and Robert Stevenson were employed, but there were certainly some struggles along the way.

As Juran Stevenson said, via the Boston Globe, “My husband and I were not rich. We have seven children. We’re not wealthy, but we’re not able to get any kind of public assistance or any kind of grants or anything like that. Because our income — my husband makes good money, I make good money — but when you have seven children, it’s barely nothing.”

5. Rhamondre Stevenson Wife, Dating Life Is Kept Very Private

Stevenson, as previously mentioned, is a private person in dealing with the media and activities outside his duties with the Patriots. He’s not married and he does not post dating photos. He rarely posts on Instagram, in fact, with just 21 posts going back to his time in college.

But among those posts, he always shows support for his mother. On Mother’s Day in 2022, he wrote in IG: “Happy Mother’s Day to the strongest most loving person in my life. There is no post or materialistic thing I can give to repay you for how good you did with me and all my siblings. No way I’m where I’m at without you ! FOREVER IN DEBT. I love you momma,”
