Former Ravens Coach John Harbaugh Crazy New Demands Revealed

In what was one of the more jarring moves involving an NFL head coach in recent memory, the Baltimore Ravens parted ways with head coach John Harbaugh, who had served in his position for nearly two full decades.

During his time with the Ravens, Harbaugh led them to a Super Bowl in 2012 while also racking up 193 victories (13 NFL Playoff victories) and six AFC North division titles. But now, the page has been turned in Baltimore, and Harbaugh will be one of the most sought-after coaches available for hire.

However, not only is Harbaugh reportedly only willing to meet with a small number of teams, but there is also an alleged lengthy and considerable set of restrictions that whomever hires him will have to abide by.

Former Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh’s Alleged Demands Revealed

According to NFL Insider Tony Grossi, there are multiple demands on the part of Harbaugh for whomever hires him, including:

– $20 million per year

– $10 million staff budget

– Total authority over the roster

– Would like to select his own GM

“I talked to a league insider who speculates on what he’s heard about Harbaugh’s pre-requisites to even be interested in the job,” Grossi said. “[He wants] $20 million a year, $10 million assistant coach budget, total authority over the roster, and also, would like to select his own guy to lean on, personnel guy.”

In response to whether or not Harbaugh would want more input on his next club’s roster than he previously had with the Ravens, Grossi answered in the affirmative.

“Yes, which would be a total change in the structure here,” he said. “I think there are four definite candidates for Harbaugh to end up with. Cleveland now is, I think, fourth. Miami, Giants and Atlanta [are the others].”

Could John Harbaugh Head To The New York Giants?

Not only did the Ravens fire Harbaugh, but the New York Giants are also looking for a new head coach after they decided to part ways with Brian Daboll following a disastrous 2-8 start to the season in November; Mike Kafka was named the new head coach on an interim basis.

In the mind of NFL Insider Ian O’Connor, Harbaugh would be the new ideal fit for the Giants as he explained while making a guest appearance on the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast with host Ed Valentine.

“If you said I have to put down 20 bucks on a candidate today, absolutely, John Harbaugh will be the head coach of the Giants by the end of next week,” O’Connor said. “That’s what I believe.“

“I’ve been doing this for 40 years. I’ve seen a lot of crazy things happen. It’s certainly possible that it will go sideways at some point. But I believe today that John Harbaugh is the best candidate for the job and the most likely candidate to get hired.”

Harbaugh’s credentials as a head coach are undeniable. In addition to his Super Bowl win, he holds the Ravens’ record for most road playoff victories (eight) and is also the winningest head coach in franchise history.

He was also named the 2019 AP NFL Head Coach of the Year recipient.
