Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Nov. 18-23.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Ellison Brush, Sacred Heart Prep water polo: The goalkeeper had 12 saves in her team’s 11-4 victory over Carondelet in the NorCal Division I title game. SHP became the first non-East Bay team to win the Division I title since the championships were added in 2017.

  Elias: Newsom could be left out in the cold if Harris beats Trump

Kaycie Burdick, Foothill volleyball: The senior had a team-high 20 kills as the Falcons beat Redwood 3-1 in the NorCal Division I title game, the program’s first regional championship since 2006. 

Kacie Caoili, Archbishop Mitty volleyball: The senior setter had a team-high 29 assists in the CIF Open Division state championship match against Cathedral Catholic-San Diego. Mitty beat rival St. Francis 3-0 in the NorCal Open title game. 

Ali Cook, San Ramon Valley volleyball: The senior libero had a team-high 32 serve receptions and 10 digs as the Wolves defeated Centennial-Bakersfield in the CIF Division II state final.

Sophia DeScioli, Leland water polo: The freshman scored two goals and had two assists in Leland’s 11-7 CCS Division I victory over Clovis. The Chargers lost a 13-11 heartbreaker to Stevenson in the semifinals.

Ally Larsen, Miramonte water polo: The UCLA commit scored four goals in a 5-4 victory over Lamorinda rival Campolindo in the first round of the NorCal Division I playoffs. She had a goal and an assist in the second-round loss to eventual champion Sacred Heart Prep. 

Cory Medeiros, Los Altos tennis: The sophomore was part of an Eagles team that defeated perennial power Menlo School to win a CCS team championship for the first time in program history. 

  Ex-San Jose police union executive pleads guilty to opioid crime

Carina Nottingham, Berkeley cross country: The junior won the NCS Division I championship at Hayward High School after she ran the race in 18:19.30, finishing 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Alexandra Powell, Monte Vista cross country: The senior finished first in the NCS Division II championship, narrowly winning by under two seconds after running the race in 17:55.30. 

Ainsley Swann, Carondelet water polo: The sophomore scored six goals in a 11-6 NorCal Division I first-round victory over Acalanes. Carondelet reached the Division I title game against Sacred Heart Prep.
