Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from March 10-15.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Carlos Alcala, El Camino baseball: Alcala struck out 12, allowed no hits or runs and walked just two over five innings in El Camino’s 16-0 win over Jefferson. El Camino (1-5) is scheduled to play at Westmoor on Monday. 

Doug Bettinger, Saratoga baseball: Bettinger struck out 13 and did not allow an earned run in six innings, leading Saratoga to an 11-1 win over MacDonald. Saratoga (1-4) travels to Santa Clara on Wednesday. 

Collin Chan, California lacrosse: Chan scored six two goals and dished out six assists to lead California to a 14-7 win over Northgate. California (2-2) will host Clayton Valley on Tuesday. 

Ellis Fuller, El Cerrito baseball: The senior totaled three hits and scored the game-winning run in the 11th inning as El Cerrito defeated Berkeley 5-4. El Cerrito has started the season 6-3. 

Cypress Funes, San Jose baseball: The sophomore went 3 for 3, hit a home run and totaled four RBIs to lead San Jose to a 13-2 win over Independence. San Jose has started the season 2-2. 

Ian Josephson, Serra baseball: The senior went 3 for 3 and knocked in two runs in Serra’s 10-1 win over Burlingame. The Padres have won their first eight games of the season. 

Tyler Kennedy, Granada baseball: Kennedy went 2 for 4 and hit a home run to lead Granada to a 6-2 win over De La Salle. The Matadors have started the season 4-1. 

DJ Mandigal, James Logan baseball: Mandigal went 2 for 2 with five RBIs and a double in Logan’s 33-0 win over Deer Valley in a five-inning game. Logan (2-4) will travel to Acalanes on Tuesday. 

Balazs Nyikos, Priory basketball: The senior captain scored 16 points to lead Priory to a 83-66 win over Fresno Christian in the CIF Division IV state title game. Priory finished the season 26-6. 

Owen Peters, Monte Vista track and field: The senior took first place in the 100-meter race at the Morisoli/White Invitational at Granada High with a time of 11.11.
