Two arrested in 2023 shooting death at San Leandro skate park

SAN LEANDRO – Authorities on Thursday announced two arrests in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man last year at a skate park in unincorporated San Leandro.

East Bay man arrested on suspicion of killing mother, half-brother

Devin Stevenson and Ebony Cook were taken into custody Wednesday night by BART police officers, according to Sgt. Roberto Morales of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. on June 15, 2023, at the skate park next to the REACH Ashland Youth Center, located at 16313 East 14th Street, Morales said.

Deputies arrived to find Darrion Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified Stevenson and Cook as suspects in the case. A murder warrant was issued for Stevenson and an accessory after the fact warrant was issued for Cook.

Morales said the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is moving forward with charges in the case.

No other details about the case were released Thursday.
