BRENTWOOD — Police using an armored vehicle arrested two Brentwood teenagers suspected in a carjacking, kidnapping and robbery last week.
In a statement Monday, Brentwood police said officers responded about 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 22 to the area of McClarren Road and Griffith Lane for reports of a robbery. Upon their arrival, police said a man told them the suspects had assaulted him, taken his cell phone and demanded he transfer money via a cash app.
Police said they gathered information quickly putting the 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl suspected in the crimes at a residence in the 700 block of Griffith Lane. Police next called in an armored rescue vehicle before making the arrests.
Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and other undisclosed offenses, police said.
Police said they made the decision to use the armored vehicle “given the seriousness of the situation and prior contacts at the location,” adding they wanted to assure “a safe approach” for officers.
Police said they subsequently called out the suspects and detained them.
The victim suffered what police deemed to be minor injuries during the attack. Police said he somehow escaped from his car after the two teens forced him into his vehicle and began driving him to a location where they could take more money.
Both of the suspects were taken to Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall.
