RICHMOND — A license plate reader helped police find and arrest a driver who they said hit a person early Thursday and kept on going.
The hit-and-run crash happened about 4:35 a.m. on Valley View Road at Morningside Drive, according to a statement from Richmond police. Officers found the pedestrian down with “significant injuries” from the collision. The vehicle was gone.
Police said the pedestrian is expected to survive.
Video footage that officers viewed showed a possible suspect vehicle but did not allow them to see the license plate, police said. The officers then used a nearby license plate reader to develop information on the vehicle.
Officers identified and arrested the driver by Thursday evening, police said. They added that the driver admitted to being involved in the collision.
