NEW YORK — Steph Curry is listed as questionable with right ankle soreness ahead of the Warriors’ game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Curry twisted his ankle contesting a shot late in the first half of Monday night’s win over the Charlotte Hornets — on the first night of a back-to-back.
Although Curry has dealt with bilateral knee tendinitis this year, plus an earlier ankle sprain, he has been playing in both ends of back-to-backs since late January. He’s been feeling so spry, he dunked over the weekend in Philadelphia and has been among the league leaders in scoring over the past three weeks.
A game at Madison Square Garden in particular is also one he won’t want to miss.
“I think I’m going to play, but if my ankle says I shouldn’t play, then I won’t,” Curry told reporters in Charlotte.
Curry is averaging 24 points and 6.2 assists per game in his 16th season. The Warriors are 11-1 all-time in Madison Square Garden when he laces up. The only loss was in 2013, when Curry hit 11 3-pointers en route to an electric 54 points.
Gary Payton II also got banged up against the Hornets when he collided heads with guard LaMelo Ball. The Warriors ruled him out for the Knicks game with a nasal bone contusion. He didn’t return to the Hornets game after the collision.
Jonathan Kuminga, sidelined now for exactly two months, also remains out with his severe ankle sprain. His recovery has progressed to full-court, full-contact scrimmaging, signaling he’s nearing a return.
