St. Ignatius promotes JaJuan Lawson to replace Lenny Vandermade as football coach

St. Ignatius is hiring interim head coach and offensive coordinator JaJuan Lawson as its permanent head coach, the San Francisco program announced on its Instagram page Wednesday afternoon.

Lawson succeeds Lenny Vandermade, who worked wonders in his two short years with SI. The Wildcats won the 2024 CCS Open Division championship with Vandermade in charge and Lawson on his staff as OC.

Vandermade left to take an assistant coaching job closer to home at Santa Margarita in Southern California, opening the door for Lawson to take over as the man in charge at SI.

Lawson was designated as interim coach after Vandermade’s departure, with the school announcing at the time that it would immediately begin the search for its next head coach.

Lawson, a Petaluma native, is a former collegiate quarterback at New Mexico and Rhode Island.
