Shooting death of man becomes 20th homicide investigated by Oakland police

OAKLAND — Gunfire on Thursday night killed a 43-year-old man, police said.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of E. 27th Street after being alerted by a gunshot detection system and found the man down outside. Medics rushed the man to a hospital in an ambulance.

He died there.

The homicide is the 20th one investigated by Oakland police in 2025. Police also are investigating another shooting death from earlier this week — the 19th homicide they’ve investigated — but details of that one have not been made available yet.

Police did not make any arrests tied to Thursday’s killing, nor did they have any information on a suspect. They are trying to determine the motive.

Anyone with information can call Oakland police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7590. Anyone with video or pictures related to the shooting may email them to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
