SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks now have at least two restricted free agents under contract, signing both Ty Dellandrea and Carl Grundstrom to two-year extensions.
Grundstrom’s deal is worth $3.6 million with an average annual value of $1.8 million, and takes him to unrestricted free agency. The Sharks acquired Grundstrom, 26, from the Los Angeles Kings last week in exchange for defenseman Kyle Burroughs.
“Carl brings consistent competitiveness to our lineup,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a statement. “He showed that he is able to contribute not just in the offensive zone, but is also difficult to play against on the defensive end. We’re excited to add him to the organization.”
Dellandrea’s deal is worth $2.6 million and has an average annual value of $1.3 million. By the end of the contract, Dellandrea will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
Dellandrea was acquired from the Dallas Stars on June 19 for a 2025 fourth-round draft pick initially owned by the Winnipeg Jets.
Dellandrea, a first-round draft pick by the Stars in 2018, turns 24 on July 21. He was coming off a one-year, $900,000 contract.
Other Sharks’ restricted free agents include Thomas Bordeleau, Henry Thrun, and Ty Emberson.
With the Dellandrea and Grundstrom contracts, the Sharks now have $12.3 million left in cap space, per PuckPedia. The upper limit of the salary cap this season is $88 million.
It’ll be interesting to see where Dellandrea and Grundstrom fit on a Sharks team that has a handful of new faces.
A year after scoring 28 points in 82 games for the Stars, Dellandrea was a healthy scratch 40 times this past season, scoring just nine points in 42 games for a deep Dallas team that won the Central Division. He was also scratched in 13 of 19 playoff games as the Stars advanced to the Western Conference final. He averaged less than 13 minutes of ice time per game for the season.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Dellandrea will undoubtedly get more opportunity with the Sharks, whose additions include Barclay Goodrow, Tyler Toffoli, Alex Wennberg, and rookie Will Smith. Macklin Celebrini was selected No. 1 overall at the NHL Draft in Las Vegas last week.
Grundstrom had 12 points in 50 games with the Kings last season. The year before, he set career highs with 19 points, including 12 goals, in 57 games.
Grundstrom, listed at 6 feet and 200 pounds, has 67 points in 236 NHL games. He represented Sweden at the 2022, 2023, and 2024 World Championships, most recently winning a Bronze Medal earlier this year. The Toronto Maple Leafs originally selected him in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
