San Jose: SUV driver hits and kills elderly pedestrian near Coyote Creek

SAN JOSE — An SUV driver hit and killed an 86-year-old woman walking along a residential street near Coyote Creek early Wednesday, police said.

The collision was reported at 6:34 a.m. at Sherlock and Kimball drives, according to San Jose police. The location is about a block east of Stonegate Park and the northwestern end of the Los Lagos Golf Course.

Police said an initial investigation found that a man driving a black 2004 GMC SUV was going northbound on Sherlock Drive when he hit a woman crossing the street at the intersection with Kimball Drive.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. She was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Florence Taylor, a San Jose resident.

Police said the driver stopped at the scene, and there was no indication that he was arrested or cited. The collision marks the third roadway death of the year in San Jose, and the third to involve a pedestrian who died.
