San Jose: Street bust leads to alleged fentanyl dealer and illegal weapons cache

SAN JOSE — A street-level drug bust in San Jose last month has led to a Central Valley man’s arrest on suspicion of being an illicit fentanyl supplier, as well as the arrest of his girlfriend who is accused of buying him guns to get around his firearms prohibitions, police said.

Justin Dixon, 37, of Stockton, was arrested in that city Jan. 2 by San Jose and Stockton police, according to a San Jose Police Department news release.

Dixon attracted police attention after officers stopped an apparent fentanyl sale Dec. 3 in San Jose, and an ensuing investigation led to him being identified as the source of the drugs. Police say Dixon was later found to be routinely traveling from Stockton to San Jose and San Francisco to sell illegal drugs.

Investigators also say their probe turned up evidence that Dixon’s 26-year-old girlfriend, also a Stockton resident, was buying guns and giving them to Dixon, who is prohibited from owning guns because of a felony conviction.

San Jose police obtained arrest warrants and search warrants for Dixon, and moved to arrest him last week. He is being held at the San Joaquin County jail in lieu of $540,000 bail on suspicion of offenses including two felony counts each of possessing and transporting a controlled substance for sale, records show.

The warrant search led to the seizure of “large quantities of illegal narcotics” including cocaine, oxycodone, promethazine, and other prescription medications. Police also recovered 13 guns and about 5,000 rounds of ammunition, which led to several additional booking offenses accusing Dixon of illegally possessing guns and ammunition.

Two of the guns had their serial numbers destroyed, leading to a booking offense of removing identifying marks on a firearm, according to jail records. Police said two other guns had been reported stolen, and two more were unregistered. Another recovered gun, a rifle, was also alleged to have been illegally modified to have a short barrel.
