San Jose police investigating 7th traffic fatality of the year

SAN JOSE – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian over the weekend in San Jose, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Ironwood Drive, San Jose police Sgt. Jorge Garibay said in a news release.

Medical personnel pronounced the pedestrian, a man, dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

A preliminary investigation revealed a man was driving a red 2009 Kia sedan southbound on Almaden Expressway when he hit the pedestrian, according to Garibay.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role, Garibay said.

The death marked the seventh traffic fatality of 2025 on city streets. Police had investigated 10 roadway deaths at this time last year.
