The San Mateo County Transit District will be offering free bus rides on New Year’s Eve, according to a department press release.
“The popular program is SamTrans’ way of encouraging the community to ring in the new year responsibly, while still enjoying the festivities that make the season so special,” the district’s press release said.
Buses will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 31. People can ride the bus for free starting at 8 p.m. and ride them home until 3 a.m.
At 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, fare collection will begin again. Buses on New Year’s Day will run on a Sunday schedule.
